Ethereum Founder Donates $277,000 to Turkey Earthquake Victims

Vitalik Buterin, the founder of the Ethereum blockchain, has made at least two donations to the organizations that are in charge of helping the victims of the deadly Turkey-Syria earthquake. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake took place on February 6th, and the death toll has so far reached 33,000. Authorities have stated that if the bodies remaining under the ruins are dead, the number will rise above 50,000.

Over the week, Buterin has actively contributed to different organizations that provide relief efforts in Turkey. According to PecShield, a block security firm, Buterin donated 50 ETH, worth approximately $77,000, to Anka Relief on February 12th in his last contribution. Buterin’s earlier donation -which amounted to 99 ETH worth about $150,000- was on February 11th to Ahbap, a non-governmental and nonprofit organization.

Anka and Ahbap have released a list of wallet addresses to receive financial aid from donors worldwide. Ahbap stated that it has received $4.3 million in crypto so far. Also, information from EtherScan, Ahbap wallet address contains 409 ETH worth $622,000 at the time of writing (2/14/2023).
