Meta Uses Arweave to Store Digital Collectibles From Instagram.

Facebook parent Meta has integrated decentralized data storage protocol Arweave to permanently store Instagram’s digital collectibles. “Instagram users can now provide digital collectibles for their posts stored on Arweave,” Arweave founder Sam Williams tweeted Thursday. In a separate tweet, Meta’s head of business, fintech and web3 Stephen Kasril confirmed the integration of the Arweave protocol. The price of Arweave’s native token, AR, surged as much as 75% since news of the Meta integration, according to CoinGecko.

Earlier this week, Meta announced that creators will soon be able to create digital collectibles on Instagram and sell them to fans. Starting with Polygon and Solana, Meta supports various blockchains for NFT issuance. The platform has launched Digital Collectibles in 100 countries, allowing users to connect to their digital wallets and display the NFTs they have created or purchased.
